Fundraising With Firstgiving
Habitat Omaha's firstgiving page

Creating an online donation page is a simple and hassle-free way to raise funds for Habitat Omaha. With firstgiving you can easily create a personal fundraising page by customizing a template with your own photos, videos and a personal message. Once your page is created you share it with your friends, family and colleagues through e-mail, Facebook, blogs and/or Web sites. People then donate by credit or debit card through a secure online transaction. Firstgiving automatically sends the funds to Habitat Omaha with your Coalition as the designated recipient. Chili Cook-Off
When it comes to chili it seems as though everyone thinks their secret recipe is the best. So why not put them all to the test with your own Chili Cook-Off for Habitat Omaha? Charge an entry fee to all the contestants and ask local business, organizations or individuals to donate prizes for the winners. (You could also give the winners a portion of the earnings, but remember the more you give away the less you have for your Habitat house.) Create categories for people to enter (best spicy chili, best vegetarian chili, best white chili, ect.). Assemble a panel of judges to taste all of the entries and award prizes to the winners. A good way to bring in even more money is by having a "crowd favorite" award that is voted on by the masses. Allow those in attendance to buy as many votes as they would like and cast them for their favorite dishes, remind everyone that this is for charity so they should vote often.

Nickels for Nails and Dollars for Doors Fundraisers

The Nickels for Nails and Dollars for Doors fundraisers are great for groups both big and small. They are easy to put in place and flexible enough that they can be adapted to your group's specific needs. The goal of these drives is to collect nickels or dollars (depending on which program you choose) that will be used to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. Your fundraising drive could be a month-long collection at your church or a short-term weekend project for a youth group. For more details on Nickels for Nails or Dollars for Doors and for supplies contact Viv Ewing at (402) 457.5657 x111. Use firstgiving to take this fundraiser online--ask us how.

How Many Nails?

This is a very simple fundraiser that does not require a great deal of time or many supplies. For this fundraiser you will need a large, clear container and enough nails to fill it up. You will place the filled container in a public location and sell guess slips for one or two dollars. (You could also sell them in bulk at a discount to encourage more sales.) People will then purcahse the slips and write down their guess and contatct information. The person who's guess is closest to the correct number of nails is the winner and will be announced and awarded with a prize of your choice; it is a good idea to see what you can get at a discounted price or for free. If more than one person guesses the correct amount have a drawing to pick an over all winner from that group.
